NELC exists to offer support to homeschool students, and those in traditional education settings. We specialize in homeschool offerings for students first through eighth grades. One day a week we host a homeschool "school" day, where parents can bring their children for a day of learning in ELA, math, science/STEM, and art/music.
In addition, we offer homeschool courses two days a week in varying subjects, such as: narrative, persuasive, and informative writing; math strategies in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; Maine Studies Courses; Science, STEM; and Pre-K/Kindergarten literacy courses.
Our goal is to support students and parents academically in any way we can. If there's a course or topic you don't see listed, but are interested in, please reach out!
Michalah Burrows is the director of NELC, and has a Bachelors in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph's College of Maine, a Masters in Literacy Education (and is a certified Literacy Specialist) from the University of Southern Maine, and is Certified in Gifted Education (and she also taught Masters level courses in this area) through Saint Joseph's College of Maine. She was a classroom teacher in Maine's Public Schools for 10 years, and has been working with homeschoolers and students one-on-one for the last 5 years. Being homeschooled up until her high school years, Michalah has a unique perspective on homeschooling and aims to support parents and students alike.
